Humane Laws
General Responsibilities
Owners are required to provide:

Sufficient quantity of good quality, wholesome food and water;

Adequate shelter and protection from the weather;

Veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering; and
-
Humane care and treatment.

Dogs and cats who are tethered must have at least six feet of rope, chain or cord.

Vaccinations
Owners must vaccinate dogs and cats that are four (4) months old or older against rabies by a licensed veterinarian annually and purchase a rabies tag. If the veterinarian providing the vaccination is unable to provide a rabies tag, you may purchase one from the Vermilion County Animal Shelter (be sure to bring your rabies certificate with you).
